Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM)

Participatory Irrigation Management is introduced in the state which covers maximum possible command area to ensure better irrigation management and equal distribution of water through active participation of farmers. The Government has taken up initiative to involve beneficiaries and stakeholders in irrigation management by amendment of the Assam Irrigation Water Users' Act, 2004. Under the provisions of this Act, Water Users' Association (WUA) is formed in command area of an irrigation project. The WUA will be responsible for Operation & Maintenance of the schemes. In Irrigation Department altogether 1581 Water User’s Association has been formed and has started operating in different command areas.
