Restoration of Rajamayong LIS under M&R 2023-24.

Division Name: MORIGAON-LAHARIGHAT-JAGIROAD DIVISION (IRRIGATION), MORIGAON.

EXPENDITURE (in Rs.): 19.82 DAYS REQUIRED: 20 Days Beneficiary: 194

Present Potential: 120 Hectares, Number of Beneficiaries: 194 Nos.

The Rajamayong Lift Irrigation Scheme (LIS), serving farmers of Rajamayong, Morigaon, faced a critical challenge due to severe erosion caused by the Brahmaputra River. Originally designed to irrigate 600 hectares, its potential was reduced to 120 hectares due to the deterioration of infrastructure.

Severe erosion had led to the convergence of the Brahmaputra and Pokoria rivers, severely threatening the Rajamayong LIS. The Water Resources Department had to dismantle critical infrastructure, including the control room and intake systems, to initiate protective measures for the surrounding inhabited land. This left the scheme inoperative, jeopardizing the livelihoods of 194 beneficiaries.

Restoration Efforts:

Responding to the crisis, the Irrigation Department, under the leadership of senior officials and with the support of M&R 2023-24 funds, undertook a rapid and focused restoration effort. In a record time of 20 days, the scheme was revived with the following key actions:

1. Relocation of Barge: The barge was shifted from Murkata to enable water pumping.

2. Pump Installation: Pump sets were installed on the barge.

3. Electrical Repairs: Tapping of the HT line, repair of transformers, and other electrical works were swiftly completed.

4. Infrastructure Restoration: The intake system was repaired, ensuring water from the Pokoria River could once again be supplied to the farmlands.

Impact and Achievement:

Through these coordinated efforts, the Rajamayong LIS was brought back to operation, providing water to 120 hectares of farmland. This rapid restoration has ensured that the farmers, dependent on this irrigation scheme, can continue agricultural activities without disruption. The success of the project is a testament to the commitment of the Irrigation Department to restoring critical infrastructure for the benefit of the farming community.

This initiative highlights the efficiency and determination of the department in restoring essential irrigation services in the face of natural challenges.
